WHO AND WHAT IS...
CLERK OF CIRCUIT COURT
WHAT IS CLERK OF COURT?
Access to the courts is a critical government service and everyone who walks through my doors deserves to have a great experience.
The job of the Clerk’s Office is to ensure that everyone has access to court records and that citizens and attorneys can file court documents.
The Clerk of Circuit Court office is staffed with 23 deputy clerks whose numerous responsibilities range from probating wills, recording land records, issuing marriage licenses and handgun permits, collecting fines and court costs, and managing millions of dollars in public funds.
The Clerk’s Office generates millions of dollars of revenue for the City and State annually through the collection of fees and recording costs.
At the beginning of my term in 2004, I was commissioned by the Judges to perform marriage ceremonies -- a service that no Clerk of Court had ever provided for the citizens of Roanoke.
Over the years, this initiative has resulted in additional revenue amounting to over $250,000 for the City of Roanoke.
We are here to serve you!
